| His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday discussed with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown efforts underway to remove hindrances to resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to arrive at the two-state solution and bring about peace and stability in the Middle East. They also tackled recent developments in peacemaking efforts particularly the indirect negotiations, which got underway this week between the Palestinians and Israel with U. S mediation. The talks in London also dealt with steps needed to make the aspired progress towards a solution to the conflict and achieve comprehensive peace in the region. King Abdullah said international efforts should be stepped up to surmount hurdles to the peace process, and warned "we can't afford to waste more time as the region and the whole world will pay the price of failure. " The King stressed the importance of the UK's role in a peace settlement that gurantees a viable and independent Palestinian state on Palestinian national soil and living in peace alongside Israel. Also up for discussion were Jordanian-UK ties and ways to bolster cooperation in economic and other fields. The King earlier met British Foreign Secretary David Miliband for a discussion of ways to achieve concrete progress in Middle East peace negotiations. |
